[Almost immediately does concern and fear strike over Phoenix's expression as he watches Riku outright (shallowly) mutilate his arm without so much as a seconds hesitation. His jaw dropping and his own hand reaching out almost instinctively as he grabs the wrist of the hand that held the knife.]
What are you doing!? You don't have to go that far now do you?!
[His heart is pounding as he sees the blood, biting his lip out of habit as he looks the wound over.]
Being able to handle it or not it's no reason to hurt yourself that badly. Here, let me see it.
[He was no trained medical expert but if spending his days looking over insanely precarious kids had taught him one thing, it was how to handle dressing wounds.]
Man, if it can't sense a cut like this then there are probably no dragons here at all.
no subject
It's best way to lure the dragons, and it probably hurts me less than it would have hurt you.
[Because cutting your palm? Generally not a good idea anyway – especially when you might need your off-hand for something or other. In any case, he tries to pull away his injured arm; there is no need to see to or worry about it.]
You don't need to worry, I'll heal it away once we got the dragons close.
[It probably won't even leave a scar! (…Probably. Riku's healing is a work-in-progress, but he's confident enough; that counts for something, right?)]
no subject
Maybe after they capture this dragon Phoenix will sit Riku down with a cup of hot coco and just give the kid time to relax a little.
Yes, that was probably by a good idea.]
How much it would hurt isn’t the point. I’m more concerned over how little hesitation it took for you to do that to yourself.
You know what? Never mind, we’ll save that for later.
[You literally just met this kid Phoenix, it would be dissuading to start scolding him right off the bat.]
If you do know how to heal it make sure to keep it clean during all this. I don’t want to have it get infected or worse because of a silly request like this.
[Speaking of how dumb dragon hunting could be, did the ground just shake a little? Nah, it was probably just his own paranoia at work.
Probably.]
no subject
I was being practical.
[They need to lure in these dragons and if that's the way to speed up the process, sure, Riku is going to cut himself. And besides, wasn't Phoenix trying to do the same like two minute ago? How is that any different?
In any case, Riku scowls faintly – would it hurt this man to trust him to know what he's doing? (This is why adults suck, btw. Just so you know.)]
It's not going to get infected.
[But before he can say any more, he feels the faint tremor, hears a slight rumble coming closer. Hmm, seems like the dragon keeper was right about the blood. He turns towards the jungle, tensing slightly.]
I think we got company.
no subject
He is a middle aged man filled with worry and concern.]
I know, they say it’s mandatory but—
[He stops as Riku points out the arrival of something else. Phoenix’s own body growing alert, eyes wide as he froze and, sure enough, the tremble of the ground was growing all the more distinct. And then, in the distance, a deep and guttural roar from the forest.
How did he end up in this situation again?]
So, you wouldn’t happen to know what we were supposed to do once the dragon showed up, do you?
[Why does he feel like they should be running now?]
no subject
Well, we are supposed to capture it, aren't we? I'd suggest we do exactly that.
[Though the how of that… well, that's still in works. Riku just hopes this dragon won't be spitting fire at them. That would be pretty annoying… and a little dangerous, especially given their lack of clothing.]
no subject
And after whatever damage reports he may have to end up writing due to this whole endeavor.
Seriously. Why him?]
Capture it huh? You wouldn’t happen to have any dragon hunting traps on your person would you?
[And if so where are you hiding it with what you were wearing? Phoenix couldn’t help but instead gulp back his witty retort though as the shaking ground grew all the more tremulous and a loud roar erupted from the shaking branches. Only a few seconds passing before it suddenly busted out towards them, knocking a few trees down with it in the process.]
At least it’s apparently trained not to attack!?!
[But then why does it look so ready to lunge in their direction?]
no subject
Riku shrugs – no he doesn't have any dragon hunting traps on him. He doesn't even know what those would look like, really. Then he places his right hand over the cut on his arm, muttering quietly under his breath ("Heal.") and just like that green magic sparks and skin mends again.
Then he draws back his right and twists his wrist slightly, Darkness swirling as he calls out his sword.]
Even if it's not supposed to attack, I'm not going to take any chances.
[Is he planning to fight the dragon? You bet his planning to fight the dragon!!!
He turns his head back slightly, faint concern on his face as he considers Phoenix.]
You should probably stay back.
no subject
He didn't think that meant he'd be signing himself up as dragon bait though!
Taken aback by the quickly fleeting spark of light that Riku emitted, Phoenix turned his head just in time to see the kid produce a sword from what appeared to be entirely out of the ether! He had seen many interesting things up until this point, and had even seen real life magic once or twice. But this amount of inexplicable mysticism had seemed downright unbelievable!
All right! You've got this Phoenix. Just slowly step back and let Riku do his thing as--
A small crack sounded as Phoenix slowly backed onto a pile of twigs. Immediately catching the dragons attention as it roared out and began to make a direct charge for him!]
Aghk!!!
no subject
Also, welcome to the world of adventure video games, where you produce your magical weapons right out of that space beside your Heart. Whatever that means.
Riku grimaces when he hears the cracking sounds of the other stepping right into the twigs – so much for keeping the attention of the dragon on himself. He immediately breaks into a run to put himself between the dragon and its target, twisting his blade so he can bat at it with the flat side of his sword – a warning for now rather than a serious attempt to harm the beast.
He isn't going to let it hurt anyone, but he hasn't forgotten their mission quite yet.]
How about you behave, you overgrown lizard!
[He hits the dragon right on the nose when it comes too close to them for his comfort, then immediately slides back into his opening stance.]
no subject
Of course, he's starting to regret it a little now, but that's besides the point.
The dragon, on the other hand, was quite stubborn. The hit managed to land directly on his nose, causing it to recoil and roar out ferociously. The scent of blood coming from Riku added with that attack causing it to direct its sight on its more youthful target.
Perhaps normally it would have been quite docile, but a few days spent out in the wilderness had left it feral and hungry. It was simply looking for a means to survive.
Which was why, as it braced itself and lashed its tail around, a bright light began to form in the pits of its mouth. Smoke billowing from its nostrils as he launched a bright flame towards Riku.]
Ah! Kid! Watch out!!
[How silly. Phoenix had never felt so absolutely helpless in his life. If only there was some way he could help Riku snare this thing...]
no subject
His lips press together when the dragon pulls back to launch his flames, then shouts:]
I've got it!
[Then he dodges out of the way and towards Phoenix, his left hand coming up to call his barrier so it will shield them from any flame coming their way.]
Run back to the stables and see if they have some kind of bridle! I'll keep this guy busy!
no subject
[Phoenix nodded his head with a wide-mouthed expression of astonishment. He had seen people use magic before now, small tricks and spells that were mainly for entertainment, but this was on an entirely different level! Never did he think such powers or such situations would be such a common occurrence. And yet here we was, helpless bait in a battle against a dragon.
And so, which shakes knees and a sweating palms did he finally manage to bring himself to a stand and make a ungraceful dash towards the city.
The dragon was less than amused.
Letting out a harsh roar its breath paused as it instead backed up, bracing itself before slashing out with its front claw directly towards Riku.]
no subject
Rather than to dodge again, and allow the dragon to go after Phoenix, Riku brings up his sword, both hands on the grip as he holds against the dragon's strength. Then he slides back, black flames forming in his hand before he unleashes the blast on the dragon to keep its attentions on him.
Phoenix better hurry with the bridle, because Riku would rather not have to try for a kill here.]
I'm a dragon now. Hi.
Growling out, he tried to push against the resisting blade of the kid blocking him. Leaning his weight down on him in hopes to overwhelm him with pure physical force. If he can crush the kid beneath his own weight it would certainly make this whole thing quite a bit easier. Perhaps enough that he could still have time to chase after the fat one.]
Hi dragon!!! 8D
Rather than to let the dragon push him around, he dismisses his sword and dodge rolls to the side. He tries to get some distance between himself and the beast before he recalls the Soul Eater to his hand and rushes forward at the Dragon, wrapping himself up into the air at last second for a couple of hits against its head.
He isn't out to kill the dragon… but that doesn't mean he won't try giving it the headache of its lifetime!]
rawr~ >:3
Instead, roaring out as he was made a mockery of and simply bonked upon the head as if he were a young hatching still growing up in the barns. How insulting. What did this youngling expect from him with such an action?
Seriously! That smarts! All he was trying to do was get some food! He's rarely ever been out in the wilds but he knows at least that hunting is key to survival!
Roaring out, a harsh wave of flames once more erupted from his mouth, spewing in Rikus direction yet mutually catching fire to quite a bit of the nearby underbrush.
Just a little more Riku. You can do this. Phoenix is making his way back as we speak... Hopefully.]
no subject
Riku calls up his shield again to block the flames… but while it's enough to protect him, it certainly doesn't protect the undergrowth… which is kind of worrying actually because now Riku is trapped between a sea of flames and a dragon in nothing but his pants.
Next time he volunteers to be dragon bait, he is so keeping his coat on.
He lifts his sword again, careful about his surroundings as he steps to the side, trying to get away from the flames, if the dragon will let me. He is many things, but fireproof isn't one of them. Still, he can't help a little quip:]
That all you've got? I guess, you really are just an overgrown fire breather.
[Riku plz. Stop playing with the fire.
I mean.]no subject
Although truthfully, the dragon had only had a feint idea as to what he was doing. Surely if he were older and wiser and not raised within captivity he would have had an easier time besting this tiny human. Why couldn't the fat one stay and just let him eat him?
Ah well. At least this one seemed to finally be dying down in it's vigor.
His tail lashed to and fro as, while still breathing out, he took a step closer. And then another step. Slowly and ominously approaching the kid in hopes that the closer Riku got to the source of the flame the easier it would be for him to succumb to it.
Shame the dragon was so invested in what he was doing that he wasn't really paying attention to what was going on around him. A small voice calling out in the distance, a figure slowly, laboriously, running it's way down the path towards them.]
HEEEEYYYY!!!
[Sure enough, as out of breath as he was, here came Phoenix, running his way over. A rather large bridle, a long rope and what seemed to be a big dripping sack carelessly and haphazardly fumbling about in his arms as he did his best to make his way over.]
Hey kid! I'm almost there! Hold--Hold on one more second!
[Poor guy. He really wasn't used to running around this much.]
no subject
Riku perks up slightly when he hears Phoenix approach, and the only reason his shoulders don't slump with relief is that he can't afford to get distracted now, when they are finally about to catch the damn lizard. He hopes that his partner is going to manage to stay quiet and not draw the dragon's attention onto himself again until they have the bridle in place.
He tilts his head, and shouts in an effort to keep the dragon's focus on him:]
All right, time for the final round!
no subject
Which begged to question... What was he supposed to do now?
He had assumed, that upon returning, Riku would do something with the bridle. But looking at the situation that didn't look like it was going to be happening any time soon.
Did that mean it was up to him?!? He couldn't even bridle a horse none the less a dragon!
... Oh boy.]
H-Hold on!
[Gulping back, he did his best to brace himself for the real hard part in all this. Somehow attempting to throw this thing on a real live dragon without it's noticing.
The dragon, on the other hand, had heard Phoenix's approach, but knew better than to immediately go for him. If he turned his attention away from the kid he would lose for sure after all. So instead he took another step towards Riku, to the point that he was looming over him. His mouth, the source of the flame, only feet away from his prey.
Well, you only live once right? Phoenix is tense, and his palms are sweating, but he desperately walks around towards the backside of the beast. Just barely missing a swing from its tail.
Hopefully you only have to hang in there a little longer Riku.]
no subject
In any case, Riku lifts his hand in preparation to block another volley of flames coming his way.]
Don't hold out on me now!
[Keeping the dragon's attention until Phoenix is done is his primary objective right now, no matter if he does it by hitting the dragon or shouting at him.]
no subject
Deep breaths Phoenix Wright.
Now is your moment of truth.
You're going to take down a dragon.
In all truth, he was shaking in his shoes. He had experienced life or death situations before, and he had always pulled through but never had he faced such an experience while taking on a real-life not-so-mythical beast.
He gulped back, suddenly realizing how sweaty his palms felt as his eyes focused on the dragons back.
Should he just throw it up there?
Well, that's certainly what he was attempting to do. Huffing out exuberantly as he tossed out the rope bridle, hoping to at least hook it over the neck of the dragon.
And, surprisingly, despite his nerves, it actually seemed to be a pretty good throw. Much less surprising was the dragon's reaction.
Growling out, the flames in its breath faltered as it tossed its head back to look around towards Phoenix. Phoenix's eyes wide in shock as, for a brief second, he met the creatures gaze directly.]
A-Ahh q-quick! Grab the other side of the rope! Secure! We gotta secure it!
[What would him from a few months ago think of the current situation he was in? How surreal.]
no subject
Is he even wearing shoes right now?Riku doesn't hesitate and by the time Phoenix calls out, he's already moving towards the dangling rope and grabs it. Using his momentum and strength, he pulls to get the dragon's attention back on him, if necessary – he is better equipped to handle it than Phoenix is, after all.]
I've got it; let's get this done!
[Come Phoenix, you can freak out later. They've got a job to do for now.]
no subject
Who cares if it makes him look slightly more ridiculous. As horrible of an adult as it made him look, Phoenix was fairly relieved to see Riku taking control of the situation. Or at least he was taking enough control that the dragons attention remained fixed on him. Taking the opportunity to make sure the rope was evenly adjusted in both sides. Before pausing, and looking down at the rest of the bridal in his hands.
Okay.
He can do this.
Gulping back he tiptoed along to the backside of the dragon once more, this time bracing himself before jumping onto the beasts leg.
That the dragon noticed. Snarling out as it reared back, attempting to circle around and bite at its own hind legs in hopes to get Phoenix off.]
Hit it! Distract it enough that I can get on its back!
