[Truthfully the more Charles spoke the more Phoenix could feel his respect grow for the man helping him. No wonder the professor was willing to aid in guiding a bumbling newbie like him into the world.]

That's amazing. And to teach gifted children I suppose you must be quite gifted yourself ahah-Oh right!

[Charles was here to help guide him with the teleportation machine wasn't he? He almost forgot!]

I suppose I should stop distracting you from what you initially meant to help me with.

[So how do we do this whole teleporting thing again? The whole situation still all felt so foreign to him.]

[Phoenix couldn't help but grin out with the open response to his questions. If anything he seemed quite a bit more relaxed in regard to this entire scenario.]

Professor Charles Xavier. Though I suppose the title is redundant now that there's no Oxford.

[All that amazement he felt up until now? Increase it by tenfold! Meeting an Oxford grad was like meeting a movie star. Truly Mr.Xavier must have been one of the best minds out there if that were the case.

Of course, that was throwing himself under the bus in a manner of thinking. But really he wasn't thinking all that much about himself at the moment anyway.]

You say that, and yet if your worlds Oxford is anything like my worlds Oxford than I would think the respect is deserved.

Although the more I think about it the more it amazes me that there are two worlds with an elite college called Oxford.

I was only Ivy U. myself. Although it's still something I suppose. What did you major in professor?

[ The similarities in different Earths is fascinating and if Charles had the time, he would certainly devote most of it to the study of dimensional theory. However, he knows that he has to keep perspective. It's always a danger for him, to run off headlong into another calling. He has to be centered. ]

Genetics and teaching. An odd mix, for sure, but it works.

I’d say. But considering what you’re doing now it’s not that far fetched. I take it you not only lead the school but help in the classes as well?

Sounds like you’ve already lived a fairly eventful life before all this. Although I doubt it’s much of a comparison. From running a school being to suddenly living on another world.

[Truthfully he was still having a bit of a hard time accepting it. But here they were, standing in a space station at a teleportation dock being prepared to make way to the world which would be their new home. How surreal.]

[ Charles chuckles softly. ]

Eventful is a kind way of putting it. I've done a lot of absurd things in my life, but losing a world to find a new one is certainly up there. Honestly, I don't know where to start here.

I guess it would be pretty hard to adjust huh? I mean, I can’t believe it would be an easy transition for anyone no matter how similar your world may be or how long you may stay here. You spend your entire life living one way only to be uprooted. It’s tough.

[Truthfully Phoenix’s life had always been fairly mundane. He lived in the same city for as long as he could remember. So moving to an entirely new world was like a punch to the gut.

None the less he was trying his best to keep his composure about it all.]

Have you managed to get yourself settled in terms of living at least? Like, housing and a job and whatnot?

[ Charles' expression softens. He's an expressive person, even if it's clear there are hidden depths. He is easily touched by the plight of others and easily moved to comfort and care. Ten years ago, that had been his Achilles' heel, wrecked asunder by his sister and his friend. Now he tries to tap into it as a source of strength. ]

I do not think it is an easy transition for anyone. Or will ever be. But at least it is a transition that puts us all in the same page. No matter where we come from, what we did, at least we can push forward together.

I manage. Though it is difficult in a magical world without proper roads sometimes.

[ Charles taps his knees in amusement. ]

So I don't get out much. But I have decent work at the Institute and I hope to accumulate as much information as I can.

[In return Charles’s calm response was enough to quell the mild anxiety building in Phoenix. To help each other all through this as equals huh? What a nice way to handle the situation. You truly are a good man professor.]

I agree. These may be though times but at least we are not alone in all this. Despite the different worlds we are from we are all sharing this experience together.

So, an institute huh? I suppose that’s fairly appropriate. I wonder if they have any law firms down there. Although I feel like I’d need to go through college all over again just to process and understand the unique law system the country were going to has. It’s probably entirely different from anything I’ve studied.

Perhaps you could start with creating a law firm. Or proposing laws, if you're familiar. They're bound to need improvements and your specific level of expertise could make things easier for any other arrivals. Not to mention, ourselves, with our own mixture of laws. Something universal that we can all abide by.

Ah yes, if only it were that easy. I’d be a refugee, and one who’s new and barely knows anything about the laws and political processes behind them. It would take me ages to study everything up from scratch in a new land that I’m sure has cultural differences that far exceeds the world I’m from.

[That is, if those VRChambers he experienced earlier had anything to say about it.]

And I could only imagine the push back I’d get as some attorney from another land coming in to ‘fix’ their court system.

[He sighed and lowered his head with that.]

No. If anything I’m probably best off taking the hard road and finding a side job to hold me over while I try to adjust to this new country.

Even if I have no idea what it is I’m going to do exactly.

[Should he take up art again? If anything he can always go back to professional gambling. That’s a legit way to earn an income.]

[ Charles frowns, worried. The man's thoughts were clearly quite frustrated in the position he's in. ]

Even so, I still think we — us immigrants — could use someone willing to fight for us, especially in a strange place. We can't bulldoze our way through. While I'm sure you have skills to at least help us reach a better accord.

[Phoenix’s expression seemed to have softened a little. His stress over the thought seeming to dissipate as he listened to Charles’s words.

Yes, it would take time, and a lot of trial and error, but it wasn’t his first time being thrown into an entirely new legal system now was it?]

A representative for the people who immigrated here. It seems doable. Although it would still require some time and research. I can also start off with a bit of a learning curve.

[Right then! He was most definitely feeling less anxious about starting his life in this new world! First thing he had to do was gain some starter revenue, get some office space and then he would be good to go!]
