[Good job with the distraction technique Demyx. It seemed Phoenix was far to preoccupied with the concept of magic being a real thing that actually exists to really concern himself with anything else.]

You can? Like, a magic show?

[He does like magic shows. He couldn't help but think of how excited his daughter would have been if she knew such things were truly possible-- Ah! No! Best not to think about that now! Just focus on how real magic was. It would be ridiculous to get upset over such a wonderfully amazing thing.]

I mean... It wouldn't be out of the way for you to do so, would it?

Ooh, no but I bet I could use it to make an awesome show. Back where I was originally from, I knew performers. I learned some of their tricks back then.

[Demyx laughs a little but he can oblige.]

It's really easy.

[He holds up a palm and materializes a little ball of water, that he then shaped into a tree.]

Magic.

[Phoenix's expression lit up almost immediately upon watching the water simply materialize in his hand. It could have just been a simple trick perhaps, but it was still something quite amazing to behold.

Perhaps Trucy could one day learn something like that?

None the less he could not help but find him applauding Demyx for the fine display. It was the first instance of him viewing true magic after all.]

Amazing! It's as if you could actually control the water in the palm of your hand! Are you able to perform such tricks with all liquids?

I am in control of the water in my hand.

[He laughs lightly and flicks his wrist a little, changing it to a heart and a quarter note.]

I can make any shape you can think of, if you want. [If that proves it's not scripted.]

It's drinkable too, I drink enough of my own water on missions when I need it!

[He ponders the second question.]

I've never tried manipulating other stuff, but I bet I could. Almost all liquid things are made of water, but I can only summon water.

That's still amazing.

[As is apparent by his expression. His eyes wide and his mouth gaped slightly as he watches the water change various different shapes within seconds of eachother.]

So do you just think of the shapes and it happens? How did you learn how to do something so amazing?

[HE HAS SO MANY QUESTIONS.]

[This is essentially a magic trick for him, as he's just playing with the water, really and he laughs and nods.]

Yeah, sort of. This is like an exercise to me. Like a game, and I used to do this when I first started because it was more fun then what they wanted me to do.

[Ah yeah, there is that, it was just a game.]

This is just the result of me having an imagination when I was thirteen. Water's my affinity so I discovered that by accident during training. Everyone has one, I just didn't show it right away.

[He grins and shrugs. He can answer questions.]

So you were literally taught how to do this? Like it's something just about anyone could be taught?

[His eyes are practically sparkling at the concept. He had experienced supernatural abilities before, but he simply thought those were special skills inherited by one with very specific requirements. The fact that Demyx was literally taught the skill amazed him to no end.]

So you started learning when you were thirteen. And everyone has a different affinity.

[Of course that lead his own mind to wander. If he could do such things what would his affinity be? He can't really relate to any sort of element.]

Sort of like taking up a martial art class but... with magic.

Uh, well I'm not sure taught is the right way to put it?

[He tries to think about how to describe it.]

I'd say I got pushed to my limits until I used my magic to attack back and that's how we found out what my affinity was. After that, Vexen tried explaining stuff to me, but I'm not that smart, so I mostly had to come up with things by myself.

[There was probably some theories associated, but he didn't know them.]

All of us do, but we're not humans anymore. We're Nobodies. We don't have hearts.

[Saix beating him around the training ring hardly counted as martial arts class, he thinks.]

[This was all absolutely fascinating to him. After all, the concept of magic existing and the possible studies and learning opportunities involved seemed like something from a fantasy book. Never in his life did he think he'd come to experience if first hand.

But then again, he didn't think he'd experience none the less survive his own worlds Armageddon either.

He was about to continue with his barrage of questions on the subject when something else popped out to him. Something that was pretty much impossible to ignore--]

Wait... WHAT?! What do you mean you don't have hearts?

[Aren't those kind of important for, you know, living?]

[He laughs, it's okay he's used to that reaction.]

Yeah, Nobodies are like people who have lost their hearts one way or another.

[He smiles and holds out his other arm.]

[The term is almost poetic, but the logical side on him simply had a hard time comprehending it. So it was with slight hesitation that he reached out understanding that, sure enough, there seemed to be no heartbeat.]

... Huh.

[Maybe if he adjusted his hand a little he could... Nope. Still nothing.]

But... your body's moving, which means you have a running circulatory system... unless you're like a ghost? Or a vampire maybe.

[Great, another supernatural phenomenon for him to encounter. Its amazing how often this happens. And he doubts it would stop happening any time soon looking at his current situation.

Maybe he shouldn't question it all so much.]

I don't actually know if there's some kind of circulatory system? That's like blood right? I have blood and I bleed. It's just magic, I guess.

[He throws his head back and laughs. It's a bit of an exaggerated movement, but he's expressing his amusement.]

No, definitely not a ghost or a vampire. I did die...I think. I mean, who wouldn't when your heart is ripped out? But I think there's some magic in the darkness. I dunno, honestly.

[He's no academic. He tires of playing with his water and pops the ball in his mouth and swallows. Refreshing.]

Sheesh, that's got to form some sort of existential crisis, not knowing how it is you even exist.

[Perhaps 'runs on magic' is the best way to think about it. Otherwise he'd probably be unable to to stop his mind for circling.]

But you died? Like really? That's-- Kind of sad actually. I'm sorry.

[He had seen death too many times to not realize how heavy of a situation that is. Even if after a while it feels almost normal, it's pretty tough. He could only imagine what it must be like to have experienced death first hand.]

At least you seem to be doing pretty well for yourself all things considering. Magics a pretty useful thing huh?

Not really, since I can't feel anything, I don't really worry about stuff.

[He waves his hand a little dismissively.]

Yeah, I guess my Somebody did. It was a long time ago, I've been a Nobody for like nine years, I think. I think I'm twenty-one now.

[Hard to say when he doesn't remember his birthday or quite how long he's been there, but it's roughly right.]

It's keeping me alive, usually, so yeah! [He grins.] I like it around here the best though.

Really? This place is really that amazing huh?

[He could see that. Truthfully many things about El Nysa and it's workings were absolutely miraculous-- And it was not like he didn't appreciate all Dharma did for him but, in the end, he couldn't help but feel a little homesick for his own destroyed world.]

How was it for you? Adjusting to all this I mean. I'm sure this must all be a bit different from where you're from as well.

Yeah, I guess? I don't know, it's pretty good anyway.

[He doesn't have those feelings, but he does miss traveling around.]

It's okay, I mean, it is different. Really different. I used to work all the time and now I don't have to. That's nice, at least.

[Truthfully, a vacation didn't sound half bad. None the less the thought that this vacation was far more permanent than any he'd want to take part in left a bit of a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.]

What did you used to do before you got here? If you don't mind my asking.

[Maybe if their jobs were similar Demyx might have some advice as to how to launch back into a steady profession in this new world.]

Oh, well, um...I used to look into things, you know? Recon.

[That sounds and seems perfectly above board and not suspicious at all!]

Now I just play my sitar part-time on weekends.

[He smiles nervously, yeah that was a bad job interview. He was the worst for asking advice, honestly.]

[Not at all suspicious. So a young man like you is a military type huh? How admirable. Of course, once again he felt like you were hiding something but he wasn’t going to push it. After all, it wasn’t as if you were under interrogation of anything. Just a casual conversation.]
